All About Denture Cleaning and Polishing

After 1 or 2 years as dentures are worn, their gloss can fade and their smoothness can wear down. If dentures are not soaked regularly in denture cleaning solutions, there may be a calcium buildup that accumulates on the dentures. Maintaining the cleanliness of the dentures is important for appearance as well as preventing any mouth odours.

In order to keep dentures clean, it is recommended that they be set in a denture bath in water overnight. Denture cleaners should also be used on a regular basis and the dentures soaked in the cleaning solution for 30 minutes to 1 hour daily. Doing this will ensure that the dentures maintain their new feeling for many months. Dentures should also be rinsed after meals to prevent any food accumulation. Denture brushes should be used when cleaning the dentures in conjunction with specific denture cleaning pastes. Never use toothpaste on your dentures as the toothpaste is too abrasive for the dentures and will put scratches in the dentures over time.
